How did han escape in tokyo drift?

i get that it looks like he died but he had to have lived. because he is in fast five and there is no way tokyo drift is supposed to take place after fast five because then where is his girl from the movie? han had a girl at the end of fast five. they were planning on going places together. key word here; TOGETHER. so there is no way tokyo drift is after fast five. its just wrong. so what happened?
