My dog has matting in her fur?

We get her groomed regularly, she gets a bath once a month and i brush her once in a while but lately ive been feeling matts throuhout her fur. Im bringing her to the groomer for a regular hair cut but i was wondering how short they will have to cut her hair to get rid of the matts? i would like to avoid shaving all of her fur off :(
